His research explores narrative absence in 20th-century literature and the influence of occult thought on modernist aesthetics. He has authored several books, including The Sacred Life of Modernist Literature (2022) and Masculine Identity in Modernist Literature (2017), and contributes to journals such as English Studies and Studies in Musical Theatre.
Johnson supervises PhD students in interdisciplinary topics like anarchism and aestheticism at the fin de siècle, the sublime in contemporary American short stories, and mindfulness in creative processes. His teaching integrates literary theory with modernist and contemporary texts.
