Allan Dahl Andersen

Allan Dahl Andersen serves as an Associate Professor in Innovation and Sustainability Transitions at the Institute for Food and Resource Economics, University of Copenhagen (Denmark), with a dual appointment at the University of Oslo (Norway). His work sits at the intersection of environmental innovation, sustainability transitions, and industrial change processes, with particular expertise in transition acceleration and multi-system dynamics.

His research interests focus on understanding the mechanisms that influence acceleration and deceleration of sustainable transitions, analyzing multi-system dynamics when transitions broaden across sectors, and examining the emergence of new green value chains. He has made significant contributions to the fields of carbon management economy, agri-food system transitions, and land-use system transitions, with a strong emphasis on sociotechnical perspectives.

His recent publications reveal a strong focus on low-carbon transitions across multiple sectors including energy, transportation, and agri-food systems. The research demonstrates consistent attention to system interfaces, cross-sectoral dynamics, and policy implications for accelerating sustainability transitions. Andersen currently leads or participates in four major research projects: Carbonchains (funded by Novo Nordisk Fund), LEGIT (Legitimacy and Acceleration in Green Energy Initiatives and Transitions), SEAL (Science-based policies for a sustainable European agri-food and land use system), and NTRANS (Norwegian centre for energy transition strategies). He actively supervises master's theses on topics including acceleration of sustainable innovations, emergence of green value chains, carbon management economy, agri-food system transitions, and land-use system transitions, emphasizing the importance of understanding both technical and social dimensions of sustainability challenges.
