Aliza S. Wong is a Professor in the Department of History at Texas Tech University, where she has been a tenure-track faculty member since 2002. She also serves as Director of European Studies and is a member of the Faculty Senate.
Her research focuses on Modern Italian history, race and ethnicity, nationalism, and diaspora systems, particularly examining the intersections of meridionalism, imperialism, and migration.
Her most notable work, "Race and the Nation in Liberal Italy, 1861-1911: Meridionalism, Empire, and Diaspora" (2006), analyzes how northern Italian perceptions of the South shaped racial hierarchies, colonial policies, and transatlantic migration narratives.
