Saskia Ziolkowski is an Associate Professor of Romance Studies and German Studies at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on Italian literature from a comparative perspective, particularly connections between Italy and German-speaking cultures. Specializations include modernism, animal studies, Jewish studies, migration, and transnational literary histories. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and an A.B. from Princeton University.
Her teaching portfolio includes courses on modern European literature, Jewish Italy, and world literature. Notable awards include the 2020 American Association of Italian Studies Book Prize for Kafka’s Italian Progeny. Ziolkowski's work bridges disciplines through projects like the Seed Grant for Racial Justice in Romance Studies. She has held Mellon and Fulbright fellowships, and her research explores authors such as Italo Svevo, Elsa Morante, and Natalia Ginzburg.
