Aliye F. Mataracı is a faculty member at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), serving since October 2011 in the Social and Political Sciences Program and acting as its Program Coordinator since January 2012. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Boğaziçi University, followed by a Master of Arts in Sociology from the same institution. She completed her Ph.D. in History at Boğaziçi University under the supervision of Professor Dr. Edhem Eldem, while also conducting doctoral research as a Visiting Student Research Collaborator at Princeton University (2009–2011).

Research Focus: Dr. Mataracı’s scholarship centers on the economic and social history of the late Ottoman Empire, with particular emphasis on trade, banking, and finance. She examines how commercial practices intersected with broader ideological and subjective formations, drawing on archival materials such as trade letters and family narratives. Complementing her historical work, she engages with heritage studies and museology, most notably through her role in founding the Archives of the Silahtarağa Power Plant, which later became the Santralistanbul Museum of Energy.
Scientific Awards:
- Honorary Mention, Scientific Paper Category, Prize Competition for Research on History of Banking and Finance 2002 – for the study "Trade Letters as Instances of Economy, Ideology and Subjectivity" (published 2005 by Ottoman Bank Archives and Research Center)
Teaching & Academic Service: From 1998 to 2009, she gained extensive teaching experience across multiple disciplines in the social sciences at İstanbul Bilgi University. At IUS, she coordinates the Social and Political Sciences Program, shaping curriculum development and fostering interdisciplinary research initiatives.
Institutional Engagement: Beyond her teaching and research, Dr. Mataracı has contributed to the preservation and dissemination of Turkey’s industrial heritage through her archival and curatorial work at the Santralistanbul Museum of Energy.
