Aliyah Dosani, PhD, RN, FCAN, is a Professor at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Faculty of Health, Community and Education at Mount Royal University. She holds an adjunct appointment as Associate Professor at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine. Her expertise spans maternal-newborn health, global health, community health nursing, and social justice advocacy. She earned her PhD in Population/Public Health from the University of Calgary, an MPH in Health Policy from the University of Alberta, and a BN (with Distinction) from the University of Calgary's Faculty of Nursing.
Dr. Dosani's research focuses on maternal-newborn health equity, community-based interventions, and addressing health disparities through interdisciplinary collaboration. She is Lead Editor of Community Health Nursing: A Canadian Perspective and has contributed to global health initiatives in low- and middle-income countries. Her work emphasizes reducing systemic inequities in healthcare access and improving mental health outcomes for marginalized populations.
Recent research highlights include studies on the impact of the pandemic on preterm births in Alberta, interprofessional collaboration in obstetrical care, and the physiological effects of adverse childhood experiences on mental health. Her scholarly contributions span over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with a focus on global health, maternal health, and public health frameworks.
Dr. Dosani serves on multiple national and international committees, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research College of Reviewers and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee at the Canadian Nurses Foundation. She has received the prestigious Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nursing (FCAN) designation.
