Alissa C. Rothchild is an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, affiliated with the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Her research focuses on innate immune responses in the lung, particularly the dual role of alveolar macrophages in balancing pathogen defense and tissue homeostasis during infections like Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and inflammatory conditions such as COPD and asthma.
Research Interests
- Alveolar macrophage function in pulmonary immunity and homeostasis
- Nrf2-mediated regulation of inflammation during Mtb infection
- Integration of airborne particulate signals and systemic inflammation
- Comparative studies across respiratory pathogens (e.g., Mtb, SARS-CoV-2)
Education
- Ph.D. in Immunology, Harvard University (2014)
- Postdoctoral Training, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
Laboratory & Facilities
- Rothchild Laboratory located in the Integrated Sciences Building (ISB 427S), University of Massachusetts Amherst
