Dr. Mondul studies the role of modifiable risk factors in cancer etiology, with particular focus on how lifestyle factors, diet, nutrition, micronutrients, and lipids influence prostate, bladder, kidney cancers, and other genitourinary conditions. She employs molecular epidemiologic techniques including serum biomarker studies, genome-wide association studies, and metabolomic profiling. Her research utilizes data from major cancer cohorts including the American Cancer Society Cancer Prevention Study-II, Health Professionals' Follow-up Study, and others.
Current research projects include her role as co-investigator on the NCI/NIEHS-funded MI-CARES study (recruiting 100,000 individuals since June 2022), research on circulating metabolomic profiles in relation to cancer risk and outcomes, and studies examining statin drugs and other medications in head and neck cancer patients using data from the UM Head and Neck SPORE and Michigan Genomics Initiative.
Dr. Mondul has extensive experience with cancer epidemiology consortia and works with diverse populations in environmental injustice hotspots to understand environmental exposures' impact on chronic diseases.
