Alison Layton

Professor Alison Layton is a Consultant Dermatologist at Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Professor at Hull York Medical School since 2012. She serves as Associate Medical Director for Research and Development at her Trust and leads clinical trials in acne, rosacea, and inflammatory dermatoses.

Her research focuses on androgen-mediated skin disorders like acne and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), combining clinical practice with basic science studies on acne immunology and microbiology. She contributes to national and international guidelines, including S3 European Dermatology Forum acne guidelines and NICE standards.

Professor Layton actively reviews for journals, co-authors textbook chapters (e.g., Rook’s Textbook of Dermatology), and participates in clinical guideline development. She has lectured at international symposiums on acne and rosacea.

She is affiliated with the Experimental Medicine and Biomedicine research group and previously served as Clinical Director for the North East Yorkshire Comprehensive Research Network (2010).
