Alison Hood is a Professor and Dean of Arts and Humanities at Maynooth University (formerly National University of Ireland, Maynooth). She holds a PhD in Music Analysis and Performance (Trinity College Dublin, 2003) and a first-class BA in Music (1996). Her academic roles include Dean of Teaching and Learning since 2016, overseeing teaching initiatives, academic support offices, and curriculum development. Her research spans music analysis/performance, nineteenth-century piano music, and Chopin studies, alongside interdisciplinary work in education, focusing on student engagement and assessment processes in large classes. She has led projects like the Legacy in the Left Hand study (2014–2017) and published widely in musicology and pedagogy. Awards include the Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2020) and multiple scholarships. As a pianist/cellist, her work bridges performance practice and academic research.
