Dr Alison Connolly is an Assistant Professor at the UCD Centre for Safety and Health at Work within the School of Public Health, Physiotherapy, and Sports Science at University College Dublin (UCD). She serves as Programme Director for the UCD Higher Diploma in Safety, Health, and Well-Being at Work. Her research focuses on exposure science, particularly human biomonitoring (HBM) to assess chemical exposures in occupational and environmental settings. Key areas include glyphosate and neonicotinoid insecticide exposure among workers and the general population.
Educated at the University of Galway, she holds a BSc in Environmental Health & Safety (1st class honours) and a PhD in Physics. She has held roles including an Honorary Research Lectureship at the University of Galway and is an External Examiner at Atlantic Technological University. Her accolades include a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship and National Forum Digital Badges in teaching innovation.
Dr Connolly leads major projects like the SFI-funded 'EIRE' study on neonicotinoid exposures and the EPA-supported 'HBM4IRE' initiative to establish Ireland's HBM framework. Her work emphasizes policy-informed research, education, and public engagement through initiatives like Soapbox Science. She chairs the ISES Europe Education Working Group, advocating for exposure science curriculum development.
