Dr. Alison Colvin is a Research Fellow at the University of New England's School of Environmental and Rural Science within the Department of Animal Science. She specializes in ruminant parasitology with a particular focus on small ruminants including sheep and goats.
Her educational background includes a B.Sc.Agr(HONS) from the University of Sydney (1996-2000) and a PhD from the University of New England (2003-2006) focused on intensive rotational grazing for controlling gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep.
Dr. Colvin's research interests center around ruminant parasitology, small ruminant disease epidemiology, and farmer survey methodology. She coordinates the mobile data acquisition for the ACIAR Goat Production Systems and Marketing project in Lao PDR and Vietnam, and has managed the Benchmarking Australian sheep parasite control practices survey series funded by Australian Wool Innovation Ltd.
Her publication record shows a consistent focus on sheep parasite control practices across Australia, with three major national surveys conducted over a 15-year period (2003-2019), revealing important trends in parasite control methods, regional variations, and increasing adoption of biosecurity practices. More recently, her work has expanded to include smallholder goat farming systems in Southeast Asia.
With 18 years of undergraduate teaching experience at UNE, Dr. Colvin has served as a unit coordinator for ANPR321 Animal Function, Health and Welfare, and provides supervision for higher research degree students. Her expertise spans survey design, statistical analysis of agricultural data, industry communications, and scientific publication.
