Alisha Rankin is Professor and Chair of History at Tufts University, specializing in early modern European history and the history of science/medicine. Her award-winning research examines intersections between scholarly and lay medical knowledge, particularly through studies of poison trials and noblewomen healers.
Education includes:
- PhD in History of Science (Harvard University)
- BA in History and German Studies (Wellesley College)
Recent publications include The Poison Trials (2021), exploring Renaissance drug testing, and studies on gender and medical expertise. Current projects investigate time perception in medicine and historical medical experimentation on prisoners.
Teaching encompasses Renaissance/Reformation Europe, gender history, and science/technology in world history, incorporating rare materials from Tufts' Special Collections.
