Alisa Garni is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Kansas State University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. She joined the faculty in 2008 and focuses on international migration, development, and qualitative methods.

Research Interests: Her work examines migration dynamics in war-torn regions like Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, linking migration to land tenure patterns, gender equity, and neoliberal policies. Collaborative research with Dr. Weyher explores migration's role in class relations and societal alienation in El Salvador.
Current Research: Investigating Mexican/Central American immigration, land use changes, and policy impacts. She has published in journals like Rural Sociology and Latin American Research Review.
Teaching: Courses include international development, migration studies, qualitative methods, and sociological theory.
