Brent Metz is a Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies at the University of Kansas. He specializes in sociocultural anthropology focusing on indigenous identity and development in Mesoamerica, particularly Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Mexico. His roles include directorships in KU's Latin American Studies Center and service on multiple institutional boards such as the Global Awareness Program and Wuqu’ Kawoq Maya health NGO IRB.

Research Interests: Combines fieldwork with collaborative ethnography addressing climate change impacts, migration patterns, and indigenous rights. Active in pedagogical innovation through service learning and online course design.
Advising & Service: Advised 56 PhD and 60 MA committees (chairing 7 and 22 respectively). Led 5 study-abroad programs and co-founded an Engineers Without Borders chapter. Recipient of major international education awards for community engagement.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with KU's Center for Latin American Studies and regional institutions to expand study-abroad opportunities and strengthen Less Commonly Taught Languages programs.
