Alinne Barrera, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and Full Professor at Palo Alto University, where she serves as Director of the PhD Clinical Psychology Program. She joined PAU in 2009 and is an internationally recognized expert in perinatal mental health, depression prevention, and digital intervention adaptations for underserved populations. Her prior leadership roles include serving as Chief of the Adult Psychosocial Interventions Research Program at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), where she managed extramural grants and provided technical assistance for clinical trials implementing evidence-based treatments.
Her research focuses on:
- Developing scalable digital mental health tools (e.g., Mothers and Babies Online Course, BabyText SMS program)
- Adapting interventions for diverse perinatal populations
- Addressing health disparities through technology-enabled solutions
