Dr. Alina Engelman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health at California State University, East Bay. She specializes in disability-related health disparities, emergency preparedness communication, and global health equity. Her research emphasizes inclusive disaster response strategies for deaf and disabled populations, particularly in global contexts like Puerto Rico and Nigeria.
Education: DrPH from UC Berkeley (Public Health), MPH from Yale University (Global Health), BA from Brown University. She serves as Director of Outreach and Community Engagement for CSUEB's Center for Disability Justice Research and previously received the 2020-21 CSUEB Outstanding Researcher Award.
Research focuses on:
- Disability justice in climate disasters
- Emergency preparedness for older adults and disabled communities
- Health equity for deaf populations including food security and healthcare access
- Cross-cultural health interventions in global settings
