Dr. Alicia Sprow is a faculty member and Department Chair in the Leadership Department at Alvernia University's College of Business, Communication and Leadership. She serves as Program Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Director of the Office of Institutional Sustainability. She is also Co-Director of the First Year Program and Sustainability Initiatives Coordinator at the Holleran Center.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Community Leadership and an M.Ed. in Urban Education from Alvernia University, an M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Services from Lehigh University, and a BA in Psychology from the University at Albany - SUNY.
Dr. Sprow's research and teaching emphasize leadership development, experiential learning, and sustainability. She integrates active learning into courses such as the SEARCH Seminar, Healthcare Science, and the MA in Leadership program. Her work centers on real-world applications, including community-based projects and outdoor leadership development.
She founded the Canada Sustainability Global Immersion Program on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, where students engage in service learning focused on sustainable living and community leadership. She also leads international trips to the Dominican Republic and Canada, and regional experiential programs in Pennsylvania and New York.
Dr. Sprow advises Alvernia’s student outdoor adventure organization, OAK, and collaborates with students on the Bog Turtle Creek Farm at the EcoHouse, which provides fresh produce to Reading, PA residents. She has secured grants from the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission for kayaking programs and partnered with Coexist Build on a hemp-based regenerative structure for the farm’s market.
She believes in educating both the mind and the heart, emphasizing that fun and engagement are essential to meaningful learning. Her philosophy fosters 'a-ha' moments through direct experience, making her a transformative educator in leadership and sustainability.
