Alicia Durán is a Research Professor at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), leading the GlaSS research group at the Department of Glass within the Institute of Ceramics and Glass. She has dedicated her career to advancing glass science and technology, with a focus on energy, environment, and industrial applications. Her roles include Secretary of the Glass Section of the Spanish Ceramic and Glass Society (over 25 years), and President of the International Commission on Glass (ICG) since 2018. She holds a PhD in Physics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (1984) and a Physics degree from Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (1974).
Her research emphasizes sustainable materials for energy systems (e.g., fuel cells, Li-batteries), photonic nano glass-ceramics, and eco-friendly coatings. Collaborations with industry address energy efficiency, environmental safety, and recycling. She has received prestigious awards for her scientific contributions and international cooperation efforts.
