Alicia Cohen, MD, MSc, FAAFP serves as Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Health Services, Policy, and Practice at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School. She holds dual appointments in the Department of Family Medicine and Department of Health Services, Policy and Practice, and serves as Core Investigator at the VA Providence Healthcare System's THRIVE Center of Innovation.
Dr. Cohen's educational background includes an MD from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Family Medicine residency at UCSF-Santa Rosa, Integrative Medicine Fellowship at University of Michigan, and a Master's in Health and Health Care Research as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar. She completed advanced fellowships in Health Services Research at VA Ann Arbor and VA Providence.
Her research program focuses on social determinants of health with particular emphasis on food insecurity, health equity, and implementation science. She employs mixed-methods approaches to develop and evaluate strategies for identifying and addressing social risks in clinical settings, especially within Veteran populations. Her work bridges clinical practice, health services research, and policy development to create sustainable interventions that improve healthcare access for vulnerable populations.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on Veteran-focused social risk screening, with recurring themes of food insecurity assessment, digital health equity, and community resource integration. Her methodological approach consistently combines quantitative epidemiology with qualitative implementation insights to develop contextually appropriate interventions that address structural barriers to care.
