Alice Tang is a Professor in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. She serves as Director of the Center for Global Public Health and holds academic leadership roles including co-leader of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics concentration in the MPH program and co-director of the MD/MPH dual degree program. Her research focuses on infectious disease epidemiology, particularly nutrition and metabolic abnormalities in people living with HIV (PLHIV), and health disparities among Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. She has conducted global research in Namibia, India, Vietnam, Argentina, and Ghana, with notable projects including mobile HIV testing initiatives, alcohol intervention programs, and hypertension management via mHealth platforms.
Dr. Tang earned her PhD in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University and has held progressively senior academic positions at Tufts since 1999. She collaborates with organizations like USAID, FHI360, and the Namibia Ministry of Health, focusing on interventions such as MUAC cutoffs for adult malnutrition assessment and community adherence clubs for HIV care retention. Her teaching spans MPH/MD programs, emphasizing epidemiological concepts for diverse learners.
Recent grants include studies on anti-Asian racism in Boston's Chinatown, AAPI health equity, and culturally-adapted hypertension management in Ghana. Her work integrates clinical, community, and policy dimensions to address global and local health challenges.
