معرفی
Alice Owen is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Centre of Cardiovascular Research and Education in Therapeutics within the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. She is affiliated with the Victorian Heart Institute (VHI), focusing on chronic disease and ageing. Her research integrates public health, clinical epidemiology, and nutritional science to improve cardiovascular outcomes in older populations.
Her educational background includes a PhD from the University of Adelaide, based at the CSIRO Division of Human Nutrition, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the ARC Key Centre for Smart Foods, University of Wollongong. She joined Monash University with a strong foundation in physiological and nutritional research.
Alice Owen's research interests include the cardiovascular effects of long-chain omega-3 fats, epidemiological modeling of cardiovascular risk, community-based strategies for blood pressure control, nutrition in ageing, and the interplay between diet, physical function, and mental health in older adults. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being, particularly in the context of healthy ageing and non-communicable disease prevention.
Her recent publications (2024–2025) reveal a strong focus on longitudinal studies of ageing, particularly through the ASPREE Longitudinal Study of Older Persons (ALSOP). Key themes include dietary patterns (e.g., Mediterranean diet, ultra-processed food), cardiometabolic trajectories preceding dementia, social determinants of cognitive decline, and physical performance indicators linked to depression. These works are primarily observational, population-based, and utilize large cohort data to inform public health interventions.
Alice Owen has been a Chief Investigator on multiple research projects funded by major bodies including the NHMRC, National Heart Foundation of Australia, and Medibank Private Limited. These projects include investigations into omega-3 fatty acids, blood pressure modeling, joint replacement outcomes, and personalized dietary feedback systems. She actively collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across institutions.
She has also contributed to public discourse through media engagement, including a podcast on complementary medicine use in older Australians, which received widespread attention across news outlets and social media platforms. Her research network spans national and international collaborations, particularly in cardiovascular and ageing research.
