Dr. Alice Mauger is a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at University College Dublin's School of History. She researches the history of medicine, focusing on alcoholism, addiction, and psychiatry in Ireland. Her ERC-funded project investigates substance use among Irish diaspora communities.
Mauger analyzes cultural representations of addiction and the societal impacts of alcohol stereotypes. Her monograph on 19th-century asylums examines class-based institutionalization and medicalization of mental illness.
