Alice Janssens is a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, Department of History at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research focuses on the business and economic history of the Berlin fashion industry during the Interwar period, exploring its rise and fall (1924-1939). Supervised by Prof. Hein Klemann and Prof. Ben Wubs, this project serves as a pilot for a broader study on global fashion capitals.
She holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship (2016) from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research interests include fashion history, business history, economic history, cultural industries economics, and 20th-century political history. She has contributed to peer-reviewed articles on design piracy, luxury fashion in China, and fashion industry dynamics.
Janssens actively engages in public outreach through lectures and media contributions, including podcasts and articles on fast fashion, sustainability, and fair trade practices. Notable activities include the 'Rotterdam Fair Fashion Tour' series and presentations on Berlin’s historical fashion markets.
