Ali Kulez is an Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies at Boston College, affiliated with the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, following an M.A. from the University of Warwick and a B.A. from Bogazici University. His research focuses on 20th- and 21st-century Latin American literatures and cultures, with particular attention to Cuban, Brazilian, and Argentine cultural production. His current book project, Gastropoetics: Cultural Figurations of Eating in Modern Cuba and Brazil, explores consumption as a lens for analyzing biopolitics and sovereignty. Prior to Boston College, he was a Harper-Schmidt Fellow at the University of Chicago.
Research interests include Food Studies, Global South Studies, Diaspora/Border Studies, Critical Theory, and Digital Humanities. Recent publications include analyses of Daniel Alarcón’s fiction and Antonio José Ponte’s Las comidas profundas. He has presented at conferences such as the American Comparative Literature Association and the Latin American Studies Association meetings.
