Dr. Ali Elrayyah is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Akron, USA. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (2013) from the same university, an M.Sc. in Systems Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (2009), and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Khartoum (2003). His academic roles include teaching courses such as Dynamics & Controls of Power Electric Circuits.
Dr. Elrayyah specializes in distributed energy resources, smart power systems, and systems modeling/control. His research focuses on microgrid design, renewable energy integration, and power electronics. He has contributed to projects such as a 100kW microgrid at The University of Akron and a PV-based microgrid for agricultural applications in Qatar.
His work experience includes roles as a Principal Engineer at NEOM (2021–present), Scientist at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (2014–2021), and Research Assistant at The University of Akron (2010–2014). He has also held teaching roles at King Fahd University and the International University of Africa.
Dr. Elrayyah’s awards include recognition for outstanding graduate research (2013) and best performer in energy management (2018). He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications and holds multiple patents in power systems and renewable energy.
His research interests span microgrid control strategies, grid stability, and energy harvesting innovations. Current projects at NEOM involve developing 100% renewable-based power grids and district energy systems.
