Dr Ali Dymmott is the Academic Lead for Rural Allied Health and a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at Flinders University's College of Nursing and Health Sciences. With a PhD completed in 2023, she teaches in the Master of Occupational Therapy and Bachelor of Allied Health programs, bringing extensive clinical experience from rural and metropolitan settings across Australia.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in The Allied Health Rural Generalist Pathway: A workforce initiative from Flinders University (awarded November 2023)
- Master of Occupational Therapy from University of South Australia (awarded April 2007)
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) Honours from University of South Australia (awarded April 2003)
Dr Dymmott's research focuses on improving rural and remote health through workforce development and clinical practice innovations. Her expertise spans rural generalist practice, interprofessional education, occupational therapy interventions, and healthy aging initiatives. She has co-designed rural allied health degrees with remote communities, introduced in 2024, demonstrating her commitment to practical, community-informed education solutions.
Her recent research examines the impact of the allied health rural generalist pathway across Australia and occupational therapy interventions in acute and community services. This work aligns with her PhD investigation into rural allied health workforce challenges and opportunities.
Dr Dymmott has received significant recognition for her work:

As an active leader in her field, she serves as Vice President of Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) since 2021 and as Scientific Committee Chair for the National Rural and Remote Allied Health Conference since 2022. Her clinical background spans rural generalist practice, pediatrics, rehabilitation, acute care, and community health, complemented by project management experience with SA Health where she developed statewide clinical supervision frameworks and e-learning modules.
