Dr. Alfred Veldhuis is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the School of Psychology, Social Work and Public Health, Oxford Brookes University. He holds a BSc in Cognitive Psychology (University of Utrecht, 2009), an MSc in Neuroscience and Cognition (University of Utrecht, 2012), and a PhD in Psychology (Oxford Brookes University, 2019), supported by the Nigel Groome studentship. His research focuses on cognitive neuroscience, particularly attention, memory, and sensory processing, using EEG and TMS techniques. He leads the ME/CFS project exploring sensory hypersensitivity mechanisms. He teaches Public Health courses and supervises MPH dissertations. Awards include the Oxford Brookes Research Excellence Award. He collaborates with the Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience (C&CN) Research Group.
Research interests span self-relevance in cognition, emotional influences on memory, and neurological underpinnings of sensory overload in clinical conditions. His recent work addresses post-COVID cognitive sequelae and psychogenic amnesia. Teaching responsibilities include modules on Data Analysis and Global Public Health Leadership.
