Alexis Blouët is a CNRS Research Fellow at the Institute of Legal and Philosophical Sciences of the Sorbonne (ISJPS - UMR 8103), affiliated with Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne University. His scholarly work bridges constitutional theory, political science, and area studies with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa, particularly examining constitutional transitions and legal frameworks in authoritarian contexts.
Blouët completed his doctoral studies at Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne University in 2018, defending his thesis titled The pre-constituent power: contribution to the study of the exercise of original constituent power based on the case of Egypt after the January 25 Revolution. His doctoral research introduced the innovative concept of 'pre-constituent power' to analyze the legal rules governing constitution-making processes, with a detailed case study of Egypt's constitutional transitions between 2011-2013.
His research interests span constitutional law, state theory, human rights, law and religion, comparative law, and law and social sciences, with particular expertise in Middle Eastern and North African legal systems. Blouët's scholarly approach combines legal theory with empirical analysis of political transitions, focusing on how constitutional frameworks operate in non-democratic contexts and during revolutionary periods.
Analysis of his recent publications (2021-2024) reveals a consistent focus on constitutional transitions in authoritarian contexts, with particular attention to Egypt, Lebanon, and Morocco. His work examines how legal frameworks function within authoritarian systems, the relationship between religion and constitutionalism, and the mechanisms of constitutional change in the Middle East. Blouët's scholarship demonstrates a distinctive methodological approach that blends legal theory with political analysis and area expertise.
As a CNRS Research Fellow, Blouët contributes to the ILF-GERJC research team at ISJPS, where he participates in interdisciplinary projects examining legal frameworks in the Middle East. His scholarly contributions represent an important bridge between European legal theory and Middle Eastern constitutional developments, offering nuanced analyses of how constitutional principles operate in complex political environments.
