Alexis Barina

Alexis Barina, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in palliative care, communication in intensive care units, and patient/family communication regarding heated high-flow nasal cannula. She is affiliated with the Division of General Internal Medicine and has been part of the faculty since 2017.

Education: B.A. in Mathematics from Dartmouth College, followed by M.D., internal medicine residency, and fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Research interests focus on optimizing communication in high-stakes medical scenarios, palliative care integration in critical care settings, and ethical dilemmas in end-of-life care. Active in professional societies like the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
