Alexia Kosmider

Alexia Kosmider is a Senior Lecturer in the Literary Arts and Studies division at the Rhode Island School of Design. She holds a BA from Miami University, an MA from Brown University, an MA from the University of New Mexico Albuquerque, and a PhD from the University of Rhode Island.

Her research and creative work span interdisciplinary fields including Queer Studies, Anthropology, and Literary Studies, with a focus on Indigenous and LGBTQ+ narratives. She has contributed to scholarly discourse through publications on turn-of-the-century Native writers like Alexandra Posey and Ora Eddleman Reed, and her documentary TransJourney (2015) garnered recognition at LGBTQ+ film festivals.

Her scriptwriting projects, such as Small Steps in Black Birkenstocks (2018-2019) and Milkwood Manor (2020-2022), explore marginalized identities in film and television, earning accolades like the James Seaver Award and the Romantic Comedy Award. She currently collaborates with writer Marianne Messina on scripts highlighting underrepresented characters, including women and LGBTQ+ individuals.
