Alexey Nikolaev serves as a Private Instructor of Saxophone at Bellevue College, with his office located on the BC Campus. He has been an active professional musician in Seattle since 2000, maintaining a dual career in music education and performance.
Nikolaev specializes in jazz performance with particular expertise in saxophone. His musical interests span traditional and contemporary jazz styles, ensemble playing, and collaborative performance across various group configurations from quartets to big bands. He brings his extensive stage experience to his instructional role at Bellevue College.
As a performing artist, Nikolaev is prominently featured as the saxophone soloist with Doctor Funk Band (Strokeland Records) and regularly performs with Axiom Quartet, Greg Williamson Quartet (Ponyboy Records), Jay Thomas Big Band, and Emerald City Big Band. His performance career demonstrates exceptional versatility across jazz subgenres and ensemble types.
Nikolaev has established significant professional connections throughout the Pacific Northwest music scene, collaborating with renowned musicians including pianists John Hansen and Randy Halberstadt, vocalists Greta Matassa and Dee Daniels, trumpeters Jay Thomas and Vern Sielert, and numerous other instrumentalists across the region's top ensembles.
