Alexandros Skandalis is a Professor in Marketing Research at Lancaster University Management School. He holds a PhD in Marketing from Manchester Business School and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research focuses on consumer culture, particularly in cultural and creative industries such as music, craft, and digital gaming, alongside sustainable consumption and digital cultures. He leads a large funded project on plastic packaging consumption in everyday life. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at Toulouse Business School. Key awards include the 2015 Best Paper Prize in the Arts & Heritage Marketing Track at the Academy of Marketing Conference.
His qualifications include a BEng and MEng in Production & Management Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace, followed by a MSc and PhD in Marketing from Manchester Business School. Current teaching includes leading the 'Understanding Online Consumer Engagement' module. He supervises PhD students in areas such as aesthetics, experiential marketing, and sustainable consumption.
Skandalis has published in journals like Sociology, Journal of Marketing Management, and Marketing Theory, and presented at conferences including ACR, CCT, and the European Academy of Design. He collaborates on interdisciplinary projects like Plastic Packaging in People's Lives, addressing the consumer attitude-behavior gap. His work explores themes such as spatial authenticity, digital cultures, and the role of place in consumption practices.
He is affiliated with the Centre for Consumption Insights and has organized events like the CCI Roundtable Sessions on topics ranging from the cost of living crisis to Christmas consumption trends. His research bridges consumer culture theory with sociological perspectives, emphasizing empirical studies in music venues, festivals, and digital spaces.
