Alexandros Pazaitis is a Research Fellow at the Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance, Tallinn University of Technology, where he has been employed since July 2021. He is also a core member of P2P Lab since 2013 and serves as a visiting researcher at the Post-Growth Innovation Lab, University of Vigo since 2024, where he leads a research project on climate resilient political economy.
His educational background includes a PhD in Technology Governance (2021) and an MA (cum laude) in Technology Governance (2017), both from Tallinn University of Technology. He also holds a BA in International and European Economic Relations from the University of Macedonia (2011) and participated in an ERASMUS exchange at Phillips Universität Marburg (2009-2010).
Pazaitis' research focuses on value perceptions from the perspective of the commons and their implications for technology and organizational practices. His primary research interests include digital commons, value theory, innovation policy, cooperativism, distributed ledger technologies, and post-growth economics. His work bridges social sciences, economics, and political science with a strong emphasis on alternative economic models and sustainable development.
His scholarly output demonstrates a consistent focus on commons-based peer production, value theory, and post-growth economics, with publications spanning high-impact journals in business ethics, innovation studies, and political economy. His research trajectory shows a progression from examining digital commons and blockchain applications toward broader questions of post-growth economics and sustainable political economy.
As a principal investigator, Pazaitis currently leads the 'Exploring a climate resilient political economy' project (2024-2027) funded by the Estonian Research Council. He has previously contributed to significant projects including 'New Centralities in Industrial Areas as Engines for Innovation and Urban Transformation' (2020-2024) and 'Design Global, Manufacture Local' (2019-2022).
He actively participates in knowledge dissemination through 'The Other School' project (2021-present), which communicates transformative economic, political, and philosophical ideas, and serves as a supervisor for PhD candidate Alicia Trepat Pont on research related to maker communities and sustainability.
