Alexandros Lappas

Alexandros Lappas is a Research Director (equivalent to a University Professor) at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) in FORTH, Greece, leading the Quantum Materials & Magnetism lab. He holds adjunct professorships in Materials Science and Physics at the University of Crete. His career includes postdoctoral research at the University of Sussex (1993–1995), temporary lectureships in Chemistry (1997–1998), and extensive collaborations at international facilities like Brookhaven National Lab and Paul Scherrer Institute.

Education: B.Sc. in Physics (University of Crete, 1988), D.Phil. in Chemical Physics (University of Sussex, 1993). His research focuses on quantum materials, condensed matter physics, and energy-related materials, employing neutron, X-ray, and muon scattering techniques. Key interests include magnetic phase transitions, nanocrystal engineering, and functional nanomaterials for energy and biomedical applications.

He has published over 100 articles (h-index 26), advised 5 PhD and 10 MSc students, and secured awards including the Fulbright Visiting Scholars Award (2016) and the Gold Medal of Xanthi (2018). Notable projects include studies on superconductors, magnetic nanocrystals, and colloidal systems, with applications in energy storage and hyperthermia therapy.
