His research explores how political ideas and institutions shape personal values, humor, morality, and spirituality. He argues that liberalism is not just a political framework but an all-encompassing way of life, as seen in his critically acclaimed book Liberalism as a Way of Life (Princeton, 2024). This work was praised by The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Washington Post for its insights into liberal ethics and self-cultivation.
Recent projects include editing Henri Bergson’s lost lectures at the Collège de France (Bloomsbury, 2024-2026), co-edited with Nils Schott. His work spans liberalism, human rights, and existential philosophy, with a focus on self-transformation, spiritual exercises, and ethical living.
He has received numerous scientific awards, including the Australian Award for University Teaching (2019), Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Fellowship (2021-2022), and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2019-).
