Susannah Howe is the Director of the Design Clinic and Senior Lecturer in Engineering at Smith College. With a Cornell University Ph.D. and M.Eng. in Princeton's Department of Civil Engineering, she has coordinated and taught the capstone engineering design course since 2003, coaching interdisciplinary teams for industry/government sponsors.

Her research focuses on engineering design education innovations, particularly at the capstone level. She co-chaired the Capstone Design Conferences (2010, 2012), leads an online repository initiative for capstone resources, and promotes design learning in K-12/undergraduate institutions. Key publications analyze school-to-work transitions, client interaction tools, and pedagogical frameworks.
Scientific honors include the Sherrerd Prize for Distinguished Teaching, NSF Graduate Fellowship, and Cornell's W. Mack Angus Prize. Her institutional service spans 12+ committees, including the Administrative Board and Conway Innovation Center. She advises the Society for Women Engineers chapter and has served as Engineering Honors Director.
