Dr. Alexandre Blais is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. He leads the Blais lab, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of the Six family of transcription factors in myogenic differentiation and their cooperation with other regulatory factors.
- Education
- B.Sc. in Biochemistry (1996, Université de Montréal)
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology (2003, Université Laval, advisor: Claude Labrie)
- Post-doctoral training in Genomics (2007, New York University, advisor: Brian Dynlacht)
His research employs functional genomic approaches such as ChIP-seq, RNA interference, and bioinformatic analyses to study DNA binding preferences of Six1 and its role in activating myogenic gene expression. The lab is affiliated with the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology (OISB).
Research funding includes grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Stem Cell Network, Muscular Dystrophy Association (USA), and National Science and Engineering Council (NSERC).
