Dr. Tommy Alain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa and a Senior Scientist at the CHEO Research Institute. His research bridges oncology, virology, and immunology, focusing on mRNA translation control and mTOR signaling pathways.
- BSc in Biochemistry (2000), Université Laval
- PhD in Medical Science (2007), University of Calgary
- Post-doctoral Research (2007–2013), McGill University
Dr. Alain specializes in oncolytic virotherapy, developing novel immunotherapeutic strategies that modulate innate immune responses to viruses. His work also explores mRNA translation mechanisms to enhance cancer therapeutic efficacy. Recent publications highlight collaborations in viral oncology, antiviral pathway inhibition, and translational control.
- CIHR Spring 2024 project grant
- First-time CIHR project grant recipient (2022)
His laboratory investigates the intersection of viral immunity and oncology, with ongoing projects in pediatric neuroblastoma protection and wastewater-based epidemiology for SARS-CoV-2 surveillance. Dr. Alain’s team employs interdisciplinary approaches combining molecular biology, virology, and translational medicine.
