Alexandra Teague is a Professor of English and Associate Chair at the University of Idaho’s College of Letters, Arts & Social Sciences. She co-directs the MFA in Creative Writing and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies programs. Her academic background includes an M.F.A. in Poetry from the University of Florida (1998) and a B.A. in English from Southwest Missouri State University (1996).
Her research focuses on poetry writing, prosody, modern and contemporary poetry, feminist poetics, and hybrid genres. She teaches courses such as Advanced Poetry, Genre Crossings, and Techniques of Poetry. Her work has been widely published and recognized, including awards like the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and the Civitella Ranieri Fellowship.
Recent publications emphasize feminist themes and experimental form, spanning journals like Memorious, Alaska Quarterly Review, and Blackbird. Her 2023 memoir Spinning Tea Cups explores mythical and autobiographical narratives. She also co-edited Bullets into Bells, addressing gun violence through poetry.
Teague’s outreach includes leadership roles in the Idaho Center for the Book, Broadsided Press, and the BASK Collective. Her grants include funding for interdisciplinary projects like “Play Like a Girl” and the Vandal Poem of the Day initiative.
