Alex Smith is a Professor of Cancer Epidemiology and Co-Director of the Epidemiology & Cancer Statistics Group at the University of York's Department of Health Sciences. She specializes in haematological malignancies epidemiology, with a focus on population-based studies and real-world data analysis. A founding member of the Haematological Malignancy Research Network (HMRN), she also coordinates the European Myelodysplastic Syndromes Registry (EUMDS) and Horizon 2020's MDS-RIGHT project.
Her research centers on:

- Haematological malignancy patterns, progression, and outcomes
- Development of prognostic models for blood cancers
