Alexandra Nordström is a University Lecturer and postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (awarded 2023) and a Master of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on early childhood education, affective pedagogies, literacy practices, and posthumanist perspectives in education. She teaches in bachelor’s and master’s programs, emphasizing critical and inclusive approaches.
Key research interests include multilingualism in ECEC settings, joy as a pedagogical force, and the materiality of learning. She has led projects like LAPPSi (Slow and Affective Pedagogy) and contributed to initiatives such as BINK (All Children Included!) and the Playful Learning Center (PLC).
Her 30+ publications span peer-reviewed journals, commissioned reports, and book chapters. Notable works explore embodied literacy, digital competencies in early education, and the role of joy in child-centered learning. She received the JECL award (2019) for best early-career paper.
Collaborations involve Nordic institutions and global networks, addressing topics like climate education, ecological imagination, and sociocultural contexts of learning. Nordström actively engages in academic conferences, media contributions, and policy-oriented research to bridge theory and practice in education.
