Alexandra Macdonald

Dr. Alexandra Macdonald is an Associate Professor of Psychology at The Citadel since 2015. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Boston University and a B.A. from Rutgers University. Her research focuses on the intersection of psychopathology (PTSD/substance use disorders) and interpersonal dynamics, particularly within military/veteran populations. She teaches courses on clinical assessment, couple/family therapy, and trauma. Her work emphasizes improving therapeutic outcomes through social support mechanisms and resilience initiatives.

Education: Ph.D./M.A. (Boston University Clinical Psychology), B.A. (Rutgers University).

Research interests include military mental health, trauma, and intimate relationship dynamics. Collaborates with the VA Boston Healthcare System and National Center for PTSD. Active in campus wellness programs and resilience efforts.
