Alexandra Lux is an associated doctoral student in Sabine Trepte’s team at the University of Hohenheim’s Department of Media Psychology. She concurrently serves as a research assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt’s Department of Security in Information Technology and participates in the Fraunhofer SIT’s BMBF-funded PANDA project on Darknet user behavior. Her education includes a degree in communication science from the University of Vienna with minors in psychology and sociology, complemented by studies at Cornell University (USA) and the University of Ottawa (Canada).
Her research focuses on privacy dynamics across darknet, clearnet, and offline contexts, emphasizing user behavior in anonymous environments, privacy literacy, and the Tor network’s role in anonymity. Lux has presented at conferences such as the European Communication Conference (ECREA) and the German Psychological Society’s annual meeting, where she received a Best Poster Award in 2021.
Her work bridges media psychology, cyber security, and privacy studies, addressing methodological challenges in darknet research and societal implications of digital privacy practices. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
