Dr. Alexandra Kreins is a Wellcome Clinical Research Fellow and Honorary Consultant at the Department of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, University College London. Her work focuses on paediatric immunology, particularly thymus biology and T-cell lymphopoiesis in the context of thymus transplantation for congenital athymia at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Her primary research interests include Inborn errors of immunity (especially SCID and thymic stromal cell defects), T lymphocyte development and biology, thymus biology, and stem cell biology. She also investigates cellular therapies, thymus replacement treatment, and targeted biological treatments for immunodeficiency disorders. Her work aims to improve outcomes for children with congenital athymia through translational research and novel therapeutic approaches.

This program is one of only two worldwide centers offering thymus transplantation for congenital athymia and focuses on identifying novel inborn errors of immunity and developing ex vivo models for disease.
