معرفی
Alexandra Delano Alonso is Professor of Politics and Global Studies at The New School and holds the additional title of Eugene M. Lang Professor for Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring. She is co-founder and former co-director of the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility, an interdisciplinary research center devoted to the study of migration and mobility worldwide.
Education:
- DPhil in International Relations, University of Oxford
Research Interests: Her scholarship bridges migration studies, transnationalism, and memory politics. Early work focused on the Mexican state’s evolving engagement with its diaspora in the United States, analyzing the development and impact of diaspora policies. Current projects examine the concept of ungrievability—how certain lives are rendered publicly unmournable—within border contexts; the rise of memory activism in Mexico amid enforced disappearances; and the intersection of alternative narratives and social movements with migration.
Publications & Trends: Across her recent books, edited volumes, and journal articles, Delano Alonso consistently interrogates how states, societies, and individuals negotiate belonging, rights, and remembrance across borders. Her work increasingly foregrounds grassroots memory practices, visual and spatial interventions (e.g., anti-monuments), and the temporal politics of protest.
Awards & Honors:
- Fulbright-Carlos Rico Award for North American Studies, 2014–15
- William M. LeoGrande Prize (co-winner) for Best Book on U.S.–Latin American Relations, 2013
- Distinguished University Teaching Award, The New School, June 2012
- Faculty Advisor Excellence Award, The New School, May 2012
Teaching & Mentoring: Professor Delano Alonso regularly teaches graduate and undergraduate courses such as “Another Politics of Migration,” senior capstone seminars, and first-year seminars. She has received institutional recognition for her excellence in advising and mentoring students across The New School’s interdisciplinary programs.
Research Leadership: Beyond her individual scholarship, she has co-directed the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility, fostering collaborative research, public programming, and policy engagement on global migration issues.
