Alexandra Carr is a Research Assistant and Doctoral Researcher at the University of Plymouth’s School of Art, Design, and Architecture. Her work focuses on participatory design methods, technology, and social justice, particularly in rural and coastal communities. She leads the ‘Digital Together’ project (2023–2025), funded by the UK Shared Prosperity/CIOS Good Growth Fund, which integrates digital skills to enhance health and wellbeing in underserved communities. Collaborators include CRCC, Cornwall Council, University of Exeter, Citizens Advice, and Age UK.
Her doctoral research, ‘Reconceptualising codesign practice within rural and coastal contexts’, explores affordable housing strategies and natural material use in Bridport, Dorset. She also contributed to the AHRC-funded Design Exchange Partnerships Project, developing codesign toolkits for community housing. Teaching roles include Associate Lecturer for BLDG409: Digital Built Environment (2023) and Visiting Specialist for Product/Furniture Design and Interior Design programs (2020–2022).
Alexandra employs creative interviews, codesign workshops, and qualitative methods to address systemic barriers in design accessibility. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing equitable access to technology and sustainable living.
