Dr. Alexandra Bloch-Atefi is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide's School of Public Health, part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She serves as Program Director for the Graduate Programs in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and Program Lead for trauma and research specializations in the Master's program. With 14+ years in higher education and 20+ years as a mental health clinician, she specializes in trauma therapy, mindfulness, and creative approaches in counseling. She holds memberships with PACFA and APS.
Her research focuses on advancing counseling/psychotherapy through trauma-informed practices, climate change's psychological impacts, and expressive therapies. She contributes to national research via the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Journal of Australia. Key teaching roles include course coordination for advanced trauma practice, mindfulness-based counseling, and cognitive behavioral therapy modules.
Awards include the 2013 PACFA Research Grant and international postgraduate scholarships. She has published on body-oriented psychotherapy, employee recognition systems, and menopausal psychological approaches. Her work bridges clinical practice with academic research to enhance mental health interventions.
