Alexander Vaughan Ames is an Instructor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of South Carolina’s McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. He specializes in Old and Middle English, paleography, medieval manuscripts, book history, and digital humanities. His research explores speech acts in medieval literature and the intersection of pragmatic meaning with proverbs.

Research & Awards:
- Co-edited Literary Speech Acts of the Medieval North (2020), analyzing speech acts and proverbs in medieval texts.
- Recipient of NEH Summer Seminar funding (2009), New Chaucer Society travel awards, and multiple dissertation fellowships.
Teaching: Teaches courses on British literature, medievalism, business writing, and social advocacy. Previously taught at Georgia Tech, Saint Louis University, and the University of Alabama.
Other Interests: Welsh language, medieval manuscript studies, and digital humanities. Enjoys rugby, video games, and historical mystery novels.
