His research focuses on politics and violence in the Late Roman Republic, particularly Sulla’s dictatorship and civil wars of the 80s BCE. He has completed a book on Sullan proscriptions and is preparing a new project on elite overproduction in the Sullan dictatorship. Additional publications span Greek ethnicity, Roman Republican memoirs, Augustan imagery, and Roman topography.
Recent publications analyze legal frameworks of proscription, paramilitary violence, and strategic manumission of slaves during Sulla’s reign. His work demonstrates how violence shaped political legitimacy and citizenship during this turbulent period.
